Boxcar Social
Trying out different restaurants and cafes is a passion of mine. I am always on the look out for new places to go to. I have spent way too much time reading through menus before I go to a restaurant. To call me a foodie would be an understatement.
Boxcar Social is an ultra cool cafe/bar here in Toronto. They have two locations, Summerhill (the location I had gone to) and Riverside. I went there with a friend of mine quite a while back. We both had cappuccinos and talked for ages. I was desperate to go to a coffee shop where they did cool cafe art. It’s a very aesthetic reason but this is how I stumbled upon Boxcar Social.
When you enter, you will be greeted by a gorgeous brick wall on the left, a retro-style lightbulb ‘B’, followed by a long bar. It is ‘self-service’ so you order and pay, pick up your order and find a seat. The cafe itself is vertically long and narrow but there are lots of seats upstairs and some quiet nooks and crannies. We were lucky enough to be seated at a beautiful tree trunk top table. If I could have carried it home with me without anyone noticing, I would have. (haha, who am I kidding, it’d be too heavy, but seriously its GAWJUSS) Anyway, enough about the table.

Food/Beverage
We had just cappuccinos, no food. They do have some baked goods and charcuterie on their menu. They had a great coffee menu, even offering tastings.
Ambience
I believe the building was originally an old victorian house. They have long white walls and minimal decor which gives the place a unique modern feel. I loved it and would go back!
Service
Like I said, this is self-service. While we were waiting, the staff behind the counters were very friendly and talkative. It was a nice energy. They did make the cappuccinos right in front of us though, it was cool to see their process.

If you are planning on visiting, you will find Boxcar Social at 1208 Yonge St (Summerhill location) and 4 Boulton Avenue (Riverside Location). I would definitely like to go again!
If you like this style of post and want to see more of what Toronto has to offer then let me know! Or if you think there is a restaurant in the GTA area that you think I HAVE to visit, I’d love to hear your suggestions.
